Three years ago, I was fortunate to serve as the Project Manager for an extensive historic restoration project at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ. When I arrived at the theater for the first time after signing on to the project pro bono, I immediately felt how special the place was to the community.
It was a privilege to work on this project and to be a part of the Count Basie Theatre Foundation’s longtime and continued mission to provide cultural enrichment and education through the performing arts as was acknowledged by the New York Times and rewarded with the prestigious "NJ Historic Preservation Award".
Construction for the renovation project was completed in about 3 ½ months, which was 1 ½ months ahead of schedule. Under a magnificent new, historically-appropriate chandelier and starburst dome ceiling that illuminates the room, we celebrated the Grand Reopening in 2008 with a reopening performance by Bobby Bandiera & the Jersey Shore Rock N Soul Revue and a ceremonial grand affair with Count Basie Theatre Foundation honorary chairperson, Tony Bennett. Projects like the Count Basie Theatre Grand Reopening stand out above all others, however, my true passion in the construction industry is working with healthcare professionals to design and create dental offices and medical imaging facilities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania & Florida with Slate Medical & Dental Construction Services.
Over the years, the Count Basie Theatre has welcomed a variety of multicultural performers, including musicians Tony Bennett, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Bon Jovi, Elvis Costello and ZZ Top, and comedians George Carlin, Whoopi Goldberg and Ron White.
October 30, 2011 marks three years since the Grand Reopening of the Count Basie Theatre. Please join me for an anniversary event will be marked with a performance by the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra.Visit http://www.countbasietheatre.org/ for updated events and information about the Count Basie Theatre.
